Part of the requirements for the class is a written paper. We
suggest that you use the topic of your assigned discussion or on a different
topic of your choice (to be agreed upon with the advisors). We expect that you
do some additional reading on that topic and that you review the current state
of knowledge in your paper. We think 5-10 pages of text should be adequate,
not including figures that you may or may not incorporate. We don't want to
stress you, but we are ready to accept your papers any time (in particular if
you are done with your assigned discussion). The deadline is Wed., Dec. 18,
2002 (one week after the last class). If you have any questions, please
ask during class.
