This page was created to introduce the new functionality of the buttons and toolbar for Flybrain. The toolbar appears on all pages within the Flybrain Database.

Flybrain Logo

The Flybrain logo is active, and leads to the main Flybrain page.

Help

The Help button leads to the Help and Documentation section where you can find help pages, definitions, citation methods, computer requirements and other information about the database.

SiteNavigator

The SiteNavigator loads Inxight's Sitelens Java applet. It displays an interactive, searchable map of the FLYBRAIN website. Full instructions can be found here.

Index

The Index button generates the Index page describing the current hierarchy of the Flybrain Database. This page implements arrows to change the level of detail [ Left arrow contract index - Right arrow expand index] within the database hierarchy, and bullets indicating status of links to those pages.

Status of link codes:
-disconnected- Section temporarily disconnected
-development- Section under development
-completed- Section completed

Where am I?

The Where am I? button will indicate the user's the current location in the Flybrain hierarchy. The hierarchy of the Flybrain Database will be presented at maximum detail, with the user's location marked. Please be patient, the server generates this page from scratch.

Search

The Search button leads to the Search Page, where the user may input keywords for quick yet robust searching. The search engine allows case sensitivity, partial and whole word matching, and number of errors per keyword search. As well, the search engine allows variables for number of files returned, and number of matches per file. Searches may be conducted on the whole database, or selected sections.

Alternately, you may enter the accession number of the page you wish to view ("Accession Search"). There are four options: choosing a single access number, a range of numbers, a series of comma-delimited numbers, and viewing established access numbers with page titles. Currently, the liit is ten pages for a range of numbers, and eight for a series of numbers. Range and series searches will result in a web page containing all the pages searched for.

Status

The Status buttons leads to the Status Page, which describes the full name, the accession number, the owner, and their email address and location.

In addition, this page allows the user to post comments regarding that page.

Contact Us

The contact page will allow you to send a message to the Flybrain managers. It is handled via a script on the server, so mail functionality in your browser is not necessary. There is also a link to the webmaster's email address (requires separate mail program).

Bottom Toolbar

The bottom toolbar shows your linear progression into the database. Each step is a link, allowing you to backtrack at will.
